Crown Prince Haakon of Norway has provided an update on his wife’s declining health amid challenging times for the Norwegian Royal Family. Crown Princess Mette-Marit is battling pulmonary fibrosis, a condition causing progressive lung scarring and breathing difficulties without a cure.
Expressing concern, the Crown Prince mentioned that the Crown Princess’s health has worsened, stating her serious illness and reliance on daily oxygen use, though it is not a complete remedy. Diagnosed in 2018, Mette-Marit has had to reduce her royal responsibilities due to her health struggles, often seen using an oxygen mask during public appearances.
Additionally, it was disclosed in December that the Crown Princess might require a lung transplant. Apart from health issues, Mette-Marit faced challenges as her son, Marius Borg Høiby, faced legal charges including rape allegations and violent behavior.
Following a seven-week trial ending in March, Høiby awaited sentencing in an Oslo prison, requesting a transfer to a royal residence, which was denied. Notably, he sought this due to his mother’s health condition making prison visits difficult.
In a separate matter, it was revealed that Crown Princess Mette-Marit had a past association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. She admitted feeling manipulated and expressed regret over the friendship, emphasizing the need for accountability and justice for Epstein’s victims.
Mette-Marit clarified that she was unaware of Epstein’s criminal history during their interaction years ago. Despite the revelations, she emphasized her commitment to supporting the victims and acknowledging her mistakes.
