The daughter of infamous criminal Ian Huntley has declared her firm decision to have no part in his funeral arrangements following his recent passing. Samantha Bryan, who was approached by authorities after Huntley’s death in the hospital, expressed her strong disassociation from her father, emphasizing that she did not want to be involved in any funeral proceedings or financial obligations.
Huntley, known as the Soham murderer, was brutally attacked and sustained fatal injuries in late February, eventually succumbing to his wounds on March 7. Samantha, aged 27, stated, “I had nothing to do with him in life and now I want nothing to do with him in death. I don’t want to pay for any funeral and I wouldn’t want to go to a funeral for him.”
The public sentiment towards Huntley remains deeply negative due to his heinous crimes, particularly his involvement in the murders of Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells in 2002. Sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 40 years, Huntley faced continued hostility from fellow inmates throughout his incarceration.
Huntley’s demise occurred after a violent assault at HMP Frankland, a high-security prison housing dangerous offenders. Samantha, who never met her father, was approached by law enforcement to take responsibility for his funeral, but she adamantly declined, refusing any financial contribution, attendance at a service, or involvement in handling his remains.
With no immediate family member willing to oversee Huntley’s funeral, uncertainty looms over the funeral arrangements and the possibility of a service. An inquest into Huntley’s death is scheduled to commence in the upcoming month, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding his fatal attack.
