An 18-year-old day care worker has been accused of causing the death of an 11-month-old baby just days before his first birthday in what appears to be a bid for attention.
Theah Loudemia Russell was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and felony assault on January 13. It is unclear if she has entered a plea or secured legal representation.
The arrest followed a three-month investigation into the death of Harvey Muklebust, who Russell reported was not breathing on September 22. This incident occurred at Rocking Horse Ranch in Savage, Minnesota, where police had responded to a previous case involving a baby girl showing signs of distress just days before.
Authorities initially thought the incidents were medical in nature with no suspicion of foul play. However, after the tragic death of Harvey, the Minnesota Department of Human Services suspended the day care’s license due to concerns about the safety of children.
Savage Police Chief Brady Juell stated that Russell’s actions raised suspicion, making her a person of interest. Investigators delved into Russell’s background, including her employment history and interactions with those who knew her.
Chief Juell revealed that there is evidence suggesting Russell intentionally harmed the children to seek attention, with the third incident resulting in Harvey’s death.
Harvey, described as a joyful child, was days away from turning one. A fundraising campaign was initiated to cover funeral expenses, highlighting his bright and cheerful demeanor that brought happiness to those around him.
