A dramatic video captures the moment an Iranian ship, engaged in mine-laying activities, is destroyed by a US bombing in the Strait of Hormuz. The US military reported that it took out more than a dozen Iranian vessels that were deployed to lay sea mines in the crucial oil shipping route. This action was in response to Iran’s threat to block oil exports from the region.
Footage released by US Central Command (CENTCOM) shows an Iranian ship being targeted by a fighter jet and subsequently engulfed in flames after being struck by a projectile. Another video depicts a ship near a port being hit and erupting into a massive fireball.
President Donald Trump announced on social media the successful destruction of 10 mine-laying boats and ships, with more targets to follow. CENTCOM later confirmed that a total of 16 minelaying vessels were eliminated.
Prior to the attack, Trump had demanded that Iran remove all mines from the waters or face severe consequences. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center reported a cargo ship being hit in the Strait of Hormuz by a projectile, causing a fire that led to the crew abandoning the vessel.
Although Iran did not immediately claim responsibility for the attack, it has been implicated in targeting ships in the region as part of its efforts to disrupt fuel exports. Separately, a vessel off Ras al-Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates was also attacked.
In a related incident, two Iranian drones struck near Dubai International Airport, injuring four individuals. The Dubai Media Office confirmed minor injuries to two Ghanaian nationals, one Bangladeshi national, and moderate injuries to one Indian national. Despite the attack, flights at the airport continued as usual.
