“Deadly Earthquake Strikes Peru, Death Toll Rises”

Several individuals lost their lives following a potent earthquake that hit Peru on Saturday night, triggering a significant emergency response. The seismic event, measuring 5.6 in magnitude, occurred at a depth of 13.67 miles around 9:24 pm local time, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre.

In the most severely affected district of Pumpunya, numerous residences collapsed, prompting swift action from rescue teams. The epicenter of the quake was approximately seven kilometers south of Chupaca, causing tremors felt across Huancayo, Concepción, Jauja, and other localities in the Mantaro Valley.

The death toll climbed from two to five, with authorities cautioning that the numbers could rise further, according to Peru21. Various response teams, including police, firefighters, medical personnel, and local officials, were mobilized to assist the impacted individuals and retrieve casualties from the affected area.
