At least three students have tragically lost their lives in a devastating school shooting incident at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, the Philippines. The incident occurred at around 9 am local time, resulting in the injury of at least five students, with three fatalities confirmed.
The sound of gunshots rang out during class hours, causing panic among both students and teachers. Authorities have identified two individuals as persons of interest, one of whom is a 15-year-old student from the school.
In response, the Police Regional Office-8 has taken swift action to apprehend these suspects and ensure the safety of the school community. Additional police presence has been deployed in the area to protect students, staff, parents, and residents.
Law enforcement officials urge the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and assist with the investigation by providing any relevant details. One suspect was captured at the scene of the crime, while the other was arrested after a pursuit operation. The firearm allegedly used in the shooting was confiscated from one of the suspects, as reported by local media.
The authorities have disclosed that one suspect, classified as a Child In Conflict with the Law and residing in Barangay San Jose, was promptly apprehended at the scene. The second minor suspect was detained in a pursuit operation in the same barangay, with the firearm reportedly used in the incident seized from him.
According to Tacloban City’s police chief, Noelito Getigan, the shooting is believed to be connected to alleged bullying experienced by the suspects. Both individuals are currently undergoing police interrogation.
