“Delightful Sunshine Forecasted for UK, with Potential Thunderstorms Looming”

Date:

Britons can expect a brief spell of delightful sunshine as indicated by eye-catching weather maps. Temperatures are forecasted to climb up to 28C by Friday due to the arrival of a high-pressure system from the west. However, the Met Office warns of potential thunderstorms towards the end of the week, particularly in parts of Eastern England.

On Sunday, the mercury struggled to reach 11.6C in the Shetland Islands and 14.8C in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Monday witnessed drizzly weather in Southern England, with more rain expected tomorrow, especially in the Southwest. Despite the threat of thunderstorms on Friday night, the weather map shows warmer and drier conditions across the UK, with the East and Southeast of England likely to experience the highest temperatures of 28C and 27C, respectively.

Meteorologist Honor Criswick from the Met Office mentioned that temperatures will progressively rise, mainly in Southeast England, with the influence of a warmer air mass from high pressure. This warming trend could lead to very warm or even hot weather towards the week’s end, potentially triggering thunderstorms.

Although no storm warnings have been issued, rain is expected to interrupt the warm spell over the weekend, affecting regions in south Wales and the Southwest of England. Even in northern England, temperatures are set to reach 20C on Friday, surpassing the previous week’s levels. Lincolnshire and Humberside are anticipated to be among the warmest areas.

Looking ahead, the weather is expected to turn warmer throughout the remainder of June. The Met Office’s long-range forecast for June 20 to June 29 suggests the possibility of very warm and humid conditions in parts of the south and southeast of Britain, with chances of thunderstorms. While the north and west may experience more changeable weather initially, a shift towards high pressure later in June could bring drier and settled conditions with above-average temperatures. The return of hot weather and thunderstorm risks will depend on the positioning of the high-pressure system.
