A courageous pitbull dog stood vigil beside its deceased owner for four days, undeterred by harsh weather conditions that claimed their lives.
The loyal canine remained by the side of two teenagers who tragically perished during a sudden extreme cold snap that left them buried under deep snow. The boys, aged 14 and 19, had ventured out to film themselves in the snowstorm but never returned home.
Video footage capturing the dog standing by his owner’s snow-covered body went viral online, showcasing the unwavering loyalty even in death. It took four days for rescue teams to reach the boys and recover their bodies, with the one-and-a-half-year-old four-legged friend named Sherru found alongside them.
Viksit Rana, 19, and his cousin Piyush Kumar, 14, went missing near the Bharmani temple in Bharmour, a region known for extreme cold, heavy snowfall, and avalanches.
Sherru, the loyal dog, remained by Piyush’s body while Viksit was located about 100 meters away after a four-day rescue operation involving villagers and search teams.
Despite being well-prepared with supplies and camping gear, the boys succumbed to the severe weather conditions in the high-altitude area. Viksit, a blogger who often shared hillside videos on social media, had taken along his pitbull, Sherru.
Rescuers encountered challenges retrieving Piyush’s body as Sherru displayed protective behaviors and guarded his owner’s remains without access to food. Eventually, the dog was safely coaxed away, winning the admiration of many online for his unwavering loyalty.
