Allegedly, a 13-year-old girl was gang-raped by members of a drug cartel who mistakenly thought she was the girlfriend of a rival drug trafficker. The ordeal ended when a phone call clarified the girl’s identity, leading to her release by the attackers.
The incident occurred in São João de Meriti, a municipality in the Baixada Fluminense region of Brazil, where the girl faced death threats and a gunshot wound to the head. She was warned not to report the attack to authorities, fearing for her family’s safety.
Yesterday, the Rio Civil Police conducted an operation to apprehend the responsible individuals. Investigations revealed that the girl was brought before a “drug trafficking court” where she was reportedly sentenced to the horrific act as punishment. Seven people, including a teenager and a woman who restrained the girl, participated in the crime.
Law enforcement aimed to execute arrest warrants for five adults and one search-and-seizure warrant for the juvenile suspect. The adults identified were Samir Luan Evangelista dos Santos, Matheus Eduardo da Silva Fernandes, Kalyne Aparecida Nascimento Teixeira, Fábio Rayan Santos de Jesus, and Wellington de Medeiros da Silva, who was already in custody.
One of the perpetrators was killed by the criminals, while another was arrested after being assaulted. The arrested individual, with a history of rape and drug trafficking, was found in a hospital.
Authorities at São João de Meriti Women’s Police Station (DEAM) disclosed that the victim lived near the Trio do Ouro community, controlled by the criminal group Terceiro Comando Puro. She was mistakenly targeted as it was believed she was associated with Comando Vermelho.
The victim recounted to the police that she was forced into a vehicle by a group of men while with a friend in a square. She is currently in stable condition and has been transferred to a different municipality for further medical evaluation by a neurosurgery team.
Military police emphasized the reinforcement of security in the area and the handling of such cases with utmost rigor, sensitivity, and respect for the victim. DEAM teams promptly initiated investigations upon learning of the crime.
