A shocking incident unfolded as a car driven by a drug-impaired driver flipped in the air while speeding through a roundabout following a high-speed police pursuit. The heart-stopping police dashcam footage captured Ashley Parr, 35, in a white BMW 3 Series crashing into the roundabout, causing the vehicle to go airborne and somersault multiple times before landing in a hedge on the other side of the road.
The dramatic crash occurred after a dangerous 142 mph police chase was initiated when a concerned citizen alerted authorities about a reckless driver on Garrowby Hill, a road connecting York with Driffield and other parts of East Yorkshire. The police tracked Parr’s vehicle, registered in Leeds, nearly 40 miles away, and anticipated his route back to Leeds along the A64 westbound.
Traffic Constable Nick Simpson of North Yorkshire Constabulary positioned himself strategically and spotted the BMW passing by. Pursuing the vehicle, TC Simpson observed erratic driving behavior and decided to stop the car promptly for safety reasons. Despite attempting to pull over, Parr continued at high speeds, reaching up to 140mph before losing control at a roundabout and causing the car to become airborne.
Following the incident, Parr, a resident of Guiseley, Leeds, admitted to charges of dangerous driving, drug driving, and drink driving. He was sentenced to 16 months in prison and received a driving ban of three years and eight months at York Crown Court. TC Simpson emphasized the severe risks posed by such reckless driving behaviors and highlighted the commitment to ensuring road safety in North Yorkshire.
Additionally, TC Simpson expressed gratitude towards the vigilant citizen who reported the incident and urged the public to report any driving that endangers others by calling emergency services promptly.
