RAF Lakenheath, the largest US Air Force-operated base in Europe, is renowned as the operational hub for the 48th Fighter Wing, also known as the “Liberty Wing,” managing F-15E Strike Eagles and F-35A Lightning II aircraft.
With nearly 7,000 active-duty personnel, British and U.S. civilians, and 11,000 family members stationed at RAF Lakenheath and RAF Feltwell, the 48th Fighter Wing stands as the premier U.S. fighter operation in Europe. The wing’s operational capacity encompasses four combat-ready fighter squadrons housing F-15 Strike Eagles and F-35A Lightning II aircraft.
