Newly released video captures the moment a driver, suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, crashed her car into a mother and her two young children. The incident occurred as Patrice Pisani and her sons were leaving a preschool in Freehold, New Jersey, and were struck by a gray SUV.
In the footage, the mother is seen trying frantically to move her children out of harm’s way as the vehicle speeds towards them, ultimately crashing into a gate and landing on top of the family. The collision resulted in the youngest son sustaining leg injuries and burns from the car’s undercarriage, while Ms. Pisani suffered back and neck injuries.
Two women from the school rushed to assist the injured family as the driver, identified as Angela Arrigo, 68, of Manalapan, New Jersey, stumbled out of the vehicle. Arrigo was arrested at the scene and charged with driving while intoxicated, assault by auto, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Following the incident, Patrice Pisani and her sons were released from the hospital. The crash also caused damage to a column at Bloom Academy’s entrance and a plastic railing outside the building.
In response to the incident, Jill Howard, the preschool’s director, expressed deep sadness and reiterated the institution’s commitment to the safety of its students, families, and staff. Under New Jersey law, driving under the influence is defined as operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or higher, carrying penalties including license suspension, fines, and possible jail time.
