Tornado experts have verified that a tornado touched down in the vicinity of Kemptville, Ontario, on the past Sunday. The tornado formed during a passing storm, causing damage to vegetation and agricultural lands, as reported by the Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) from Western University. A field assessment revealed tree destruction patterns, indicating peak wind speeds of 115 km/h along a brief and narrow trajectory.
Researchers estimated the tornado’s onset at 3:45 p.m., with a northeastward path covering 1.18 kilometers. The incident received an EF0 classification on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, denoting the least severe category for tornadoes and downbursts, which range from EF0 to EF5. Fortunately, no injuries were documented, according to the NTP.
Over the weekend, Environment Canada had issued a rainfall advisory for eastern Ontario and western Quebec, cautioning residents about the potential for 50 to 100 millimeters of precipitation.
