“Famous Hamster Mollie Runs 10 km Nightly on Strava”

Date:

Thijs de Buck, a physicist and proud hamster owner, is amazed at the running prowess and popularity of his pet hamster, Mollie. Mollie has gained fame in the running community as de Buck, hailing from the Netherlands, devised a system to track Mollie’s nightly runs on the fitness app Strava.

Despite de Buck’s own marathon training efforts, he is in awe of Mollie’s success, receiving thousands of ‘kudos’ on Strava for each nightly run. Mollie, with his adorable appearance and impressive running skills, averages 10 kilometers per night on his hamster wheel, boasting a personal best of 11.15 kilometers.

De Buck humorously notes that Mollie outperforms him, covering nearly 70 kilometers per week, a distance many marathon runners aspire to achieve. To monitor Mollie’s activity, de Buck developed a speed and distance tracker using a magnet to measure each rotation of the hamster wheel, enabling him to log the data on Strava.

The project combines de Buck’s love for running and his pet Mollie, addressing his curiosity about the hamster’s exercise routine and performance. Mollie’s running stats are uploaded automatically every morning, showcasing his nightly adventures and garnering unexpected media attention, including a feature in Runner’s World.

Intrigued by Mollie’s unexpected fame, de Buck reflects on how the combination of running, pets, and innovative tracking systems has captivated audiences, proving that people appreciate unique and engaging stories like Mollie’s nightly escapades.
