Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of SpaceX, has commented on Jeff Bezos’ recent space mishap involving the explosion of Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket. The incident took place during a static fire test at Launch Complex 36 in Florida’s Kennedy Space Center.
Musk expressed his thoughts on the matter via his social media platform X, stating, “Most unfortunate. Rockets are hard.” Following the explosion, Blue Origin released a statement confirming the occurrence of an anomaly during the test, with assurance that all personnel were safe and accounted for.
The blast occurred around 9 pm local time on May 28, with footage circulating online capturing the detonation at the rocket’s base, followed by a rapid spread of smoke and subsequent fiery eruption near the spacecraft’s nose. Despite the setback, Jeff Bezos reassured that all personnel were safe and efforts were underway to determine the cause and resume operations.
While NASA has not officially addressed the incident, House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology subcommittee chair Mike Haridopolos shared his support for the teams involved and expressed gratitude for the swift response to the situation.
