England Football Team Faces Rowdy Reception in Mexico City

Date:

England’s national football team received a lively reception at 2:15 am upon their arrival in Mexico City. The crowd outside their hotel in a city suburb booed and jeered as the players disembarked from their team bus. Despite the negative reception, the players remained composed, smiling, and waving as they made their way through the hotel lobby to their rooms. Noteworthy players like Jude Bellingham, Reece James, and Jordan Henderson acknowledged the crowd with smiles.

Upon their arrival, the team was greeted by over 300 police officers, some of whom were heavily armed and equipped with riot shields. The chaotic atmosphere continued as the kick-off time for the upcoming game was altered multiple times within 24 hours. However, the Three Lions players seemed unfazed as they disembarked the bus after flying in from Kansas City. They were even welcomed by a local band, with some players taking the time to interact with the musicians.

While there were boos from the crowd, a few England supporters also welcomed the team, including one fan sporting a vintage Michael Owen shirt from the 1998 finals in France. The weather was chilly with occasional light rain, conditions that England hoped would persist throughout the weekend. Kevin Evans, a fan from London now residing in New Orleans, described the atmosphere as spirited, with friendly interactions among spectators, anticipating a different vibe over the weekend.

Outside the hotel, a diverse array of individuals gathered, including a couple with a newborn baby, a woman with two dogs, and a man waving a homemade Mexican flag. Concerns arose regarding potential disruptions to the players’ rest by Mexican fans, recalling a previous incident where supporters surrounded a hotel, keeping the team awake with chanting and fireworks.

The upcoming match against Ecuador will mark England’s first appearance at the Azteca stadium. Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada emphasized the importance of responsible and empathetic behavior among Mexican fans. England supporters were eager to secure tickets, with high resale prices due to limited availability, reflecting the enthusiasm of home fans to watch their team in action.

Before the draw in December, the England Supporters’ Travel Club secured 4,000 tickets for the match at the 80,824-seat stadium. To stay updated on valuable news, select Daily Mirror as a ‘Preferred Source’ on Google News.
