England’s Team Sheet Mix-Up Stuns Fans at US Friendly

Date:

England supporters were left puzzled as errors marred the display of the team sheet during their inaugural friendly match in the US. Notably, England captain, Harry Kane, was simply referred to as “Harry,” while Man Utd midfielder Kobbie Mainoo was listed as “Kobbie.” The game occurred at Raymond James Stadium, the home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFL.

This match marked the first time England played in front of a pirate ship at the venue, attracting millions of viewers back in England. However, fans were bewildered when the Three Lions team list appeared on the big screen, featuring a lineup where 10 out of the 11 names were incorrect. Seven names blended the identities of different England players, including Marc O’Reilly, Marcus Stones, Jordan Guehi, Morgan Anderson, Ollie Kane, Djed Bellingham, and Jarrell Rashford. Additionally, defender Ezri Konsa’s name was mistakenly intertwined with John Stones and misspelled as “Consa.”

In attendance at the game, England superfan Adam Price shared a photo of the peculiar team sheet, captioning it with “Sorry???” and questioning the American influence on the lineup. Another superfan, Garford Beck, humorously noted the mix-up of names, speculating whether it was a technical glitch or lack of familiarity with the players.

The Mirror reached out to the stadium for a comment, and subsequently, the Arsenal players rejoined the England squad after missing initial training days in Florida. Arsenal captain Declan Rice was warmly welcomed by teammate Anthony Gordon at the Belgrove Hotel West Palm Beach, while England captain Kane embraced Bukayo Saka, and assistant manager Anthony Barry greeted Rice.

Furthermore, stringent measures have been put in place for fans attending stadiums due to the FIFA Code of Conduct. A reversal on the ban of plastic water bottles has been made following backlash over the decision to prohibit fans from bringing water into stadiums to combat the extreme heat. However, restrictions remain on reusable bottles, cans, and other items that can be thrown, along with backpacks, purses, and food items.

Critics argue that these regulations aim to compel fans to purchase overpriced food and drinks inside the stadiums. Meanwhile, Scotland fans face travel permit uncertainties that could hinder their World Cup attendance due to last-minute changes.

In a separate incident, UK citizens traveling to the US under the Visa Waiver Program have faced unexpected “travel not authorized” statuses on their ESTA applications, causing potential financial losses. Scott Braid, whose travel plans were disrupted, expressed frustration over the sudden status change despite having a previous ESTA approval and an unchanged circumstance.

The tightening of ESTA approvals has been attributed to stricter immigration enforcement by the Trump administration. Despite an approved ESTA not guaranteeing admission, travellers must provide accurate information to avoid denial or revocation. Scotland’s World Cup campaign begins on June 12, as FIFA President Gianni Infantino defends ticket prices amidst complaints from fan organizations.

As debates continue over ticket affordability, FIFA’s World Cup resale website has advertised exorbitant prices for final tickets, with a 15% fee applied on transactions. Infantino emphasizes that revenue generated supports global football development, dismissing the notion that ticket resale prices reflect the actual cost or demand for tickets.
