“Family fights to bring British mother in coma home from Gran Canaria”

Date:

The family of a British mother of five is fighting to bring her back home as she remains in a coma in Gran Canaria. Emily Casey, 34, fell seriously ill during a holiday in the Canary Islands with her husband Jamie Casey and their five children. Just three days into their trip, Emily started experiencing breathing issues and was rushed to a local hospital.

Initially suspected to have a blood clot in her lung due to a recent recovery from pneumonia, Jamie was asked to pay £3,000 for a CT scan. Emily’s father transferred the funds, revealing that her pneumonia had returned, causing fluid buildup in her lung, requiring drainage.

After Jamie returned to care for their children at the hotel, he later found out that Emily was in an induced coma on life support. Frantic, Jamie contacted relatives in the UK, and Emily’s mother flew to Gran Canaria to help care for her.

As their holiday ended, Jamie returned to Liverpool with their children to arrange childcare. He later flew back to Gran Canaria to be with his wife, who had developed sepsis. Unfortunately, Emily’s condition worsened, with pneumonia reemerging in her lungs alongside sepsis in her bloodstream.

Facing mounting hospital bills of over £8,000, the family’s insurance provider refused coverage due to Emily’s recent illness. The family is now seeking urgent assistance to bring Emily back to the UK, launching a GoFundMe campaign for support.
