“Farmer tragically dies in silo accident”

Date:

Firefighters had to open a silo to rescue a farmer who tragically died in an industrial accident. The incident occurred at Orrell Farm in Lancashire, with emergency services responding before 5pm on Thursday, May 21. The man, identified as John, was found dead at the scene despite efforts to save him.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, along with an urban search and rescue team, were on-site to assist. The farmer, in his 80s, passed away despite the rescue attempts. The Health and Safety Executive is now handling the investigation.

A neighbor described John and his wife as private individuals, noting that emergency services had to cut open the silo in a bid to save him. John’s family reportedly still resides nearby, and witnesses saw a vehicle arrive at the farm to collect grain before the incident.

Photos from the scene show piles of grain near the silos, located by the Liverpool-Leeds Canal in the rural village. Firefighters from multiple stations attended the incident, but unfortunately, the outcome was tragic. Lancashire Police confirmed the non-suspicious nature of the incident.

The Health and Safety Executive is investigating the matter.
