Italian fashion icon Valentino Garavani has passed away at the age of 93 in Rome, surrounded by his family, as confirmed by Fondazione Valentino Garavani e Giancarlo Giammetti. His funeral will take place on Friday, January 23, at Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, following a public viewing at PM23 in Piazza Mignanelli 23 on Wednesday and Thursday.
Valentino, who founded his renowned fashion house in 1959, was celebrated as one of the most enduring couturiers of the 20th and 21st centuries. His partnership with Giancarlo Giammetti, which began in 1960, was instrumental in establishing the international reputation of Valentino SpA. Known for his iconic red dresses, Valentino’s use of a vibrant scarlet hue became synonymous with his brand.
Throughout his illustrious career, Valentino dressed numerous celebrities including Diana, Princess of Wales, Jennifer Lopez, Joan Collins, Andy Warhol, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, and Julia Roberts. Supermodel Naomi Campbell once referred to him as “the last maestro,” praising his ability to create dresses akin to jewels.
