Following an unexplained explosion that tore through a property in Nottinghamshire, the body of a man was discovered amidst the wreckage.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the significant blast that engulfed the building. Firefighters battled the blaze on Saturday evening (May 9) after the explosion occurred.
Residents living on Church Lane in Selston were advised to keep their windows closed due to the smoke emanating from the scene. Emergency services responded to the incident at 7.18pm.
A man in his 90s was found among the debris, and despite efforts by emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the location.
As emergency services conducted operations, nearby residents were evacuated. Temporary road closures were implemented at the intersections of Church Lane and Station Road, as well as Church Lane and Stoney Lane, but these restrictions have now been lifted, as per reports from Nottinghamshire Live.
A collaborative investigation involving the police and fire departments is ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion.
Detective Sergeant Millie Gillett, representing Nottinghamshire Police, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, emphasizing that the incident is being treated as isolated with no apparent threat to the public. Local residents were commended for their cooperation.
Group Manager Jonathan Holford from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service extended sympathies to those affected by the tragedy and thanked the community for their support and understanding during the emergency response.
