Three individuals lost their lives, and two others sustained injuries following a helicopter accident at a well-liked beach, prompting a large-scale rescue operation.
The incident occurred at Kalalau Beach on Kauai, a Hawaiian island, when a helicopter operated by Airborne Aviation, carrying four passengers and a pilot, crashed around 3.45 pm local time. Sadly, three people were declared deceased, and the two survivors were transported to Wilcov Medical Centre for medical care, with the severity of their injuries yet to be disclosed.
Kalalau Beach, a sought-after destination known for its breathtaking natural beauty, boasts towering cliffs, azure waters, and golden shores. Accessible only via an arduous 11-mile hike due to its remote location, the beach is situated on the Na Pali Coast along Hawaii’s northern shoreline, a region popular for helicopter tours.
Numerous rescue teams, including the Kauai Fire Department, Kauai Police Department, Kauai Emergency Management Agency, US Coast Guard, American Medical Response, and the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources, were dispatched to the crash site. Emergency responders had to utilize air and sea means to reach the injured individuals due to the challenging location of the beach.
The cause of the helicopter crash remains unclear at present. However, the National Transport Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration have been notified and are preparing to conduct a joint investigation.
