In a tragic incident on Muirhead Avenue in West Derby, Liverpool, a man named Paul Foster, 47, was fatally stabbed by a group of individuals wearing balaclavas, described as a “mob” by witnesses. The attack took place during what is believed to be a drug-related altercation on the early morning of October 15, 2024.
The perpetrators, armed with a knife and what appeared to be an imitation firearm, forcibly entered the residence, where they robbed Foster of cash and drugs before making a hasty escape. The suspects, identified as Elsadig Abrahim, Zayd Alasaly, Dylan Blundell, Michael Fields, and Sarah Kasseum, are currently standing trial for murder at Liverpool Crown Court.
Prosecutors revealed that Foster operated a drug enterprise from the home of Lyndzi McCowan, who is now deceased. The defendants allegedly arrived at the scene in a black Kia Ceed, with Fields driving them to the location, indicating a premeditated intent to carry out the robbery.
During the confrontation, Kasseum played a key role in gaining entry to the property, signaling to the others when the coast was clear. Witnesses reported hearing the assailants demanding to know the whereabouts of drugs and money, brandishing what seemed to be a firearm.
The prosecution argues that the group had a coordinated plan to rob Foster and were prepared with weapons, leading to the fatal stabbing. The defendants are accused of sharing a common purpose to commit robbery and, in the worst-case scenario, murder.
The trial, overseen by Judge Simon Medland KC, is anticipated to span five to six weeks. Abrahim, Alasaly, Blundell, Kasseum, and Fields face charges of murder and possession of bladed weapons in a public setting. While some have denied certain charges, Fields has admitted to manslaughter.
