The father of a teenager who was murdered expressed his deep sorrow after the perpetrator was seen bragging about the crime in a rap video recorded inside his prison cell.
Jay Stewart, aged 19, was sentenced to life imprisonment last week for fatally stabbing 16-year-old Kayden Moy on a beach in North Ayrshire, Scotland, in May 2025.
In a two-minute video filmed within HMP Polmont, Stewart is shown wearing a t-shirt over his face rapping about the murder and making threats of future violence upon release.
Kayden’s father, Paul, reacted to the video, stating, “My family was devastated by a leaked video showing Jay Stewart, the convicted killer of my son, singing and seemingly boasting about taking my son’s life. It is an unimaginable pain for any parent to endure. We continue to grieve the loss of Kayden while the individual responsible shows no remorse or empathy.” The video was captured on a mobile device held by another inmate, who can be heard laughing in the background.
Stewart refers to the murder of “KM” or “Kayden” several times in the video, emphasizing his violent tendencies and future plans. Alongside Cole Turley, 18, Stewart was sentenced to a minimum of 16 years for the murder, while a 15-year-old accomplice received a minimum of 14 years. The fatal stabbing occurred on Irvine beach when the teenagers, armed with weapons, confronted and pursued Kayden, resulting in his tragic death.
During the sentencing of the three teenagers, Judge Lord Scott described Kayden’s death as “senseless and avoidable.”
A spokesperson from the Scottish Prison Service acknowledged the distress such videos cause to families and highlighted their efforts to prevent contraband, including mobile phones, from entering prisons. They collaborate with law enforcement to address security breaches effectively.
