A former British Army soldier has received a prison sentence for carrying out a violent petrol bomb attack on a police station. Jamie Taylor, 34, who suffers from severe post-traumatic stress disorder due to his military service in Afghanistan, pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to the incident.
In May 2025, Taylor armed himself with four petrol-filled vodka bottles and threw one at marked police vehicles outside Livingston Police Station in West Lothian. Subsequently, he ignited two more petrol bombs, endangering the lives of police officers on the scene.
Following his admission of guilt in November at the High Court in Edinburgh, Taylor was sentenced to three years and six months in prison, along with a 12-month supervision order. The judge emphasized the gravity of his actions, stating that despite his personal struggles, Taylor’s behavior was dangerous and unjustifiable.
Taylor’s defense highlighted his traumatic experiences in the military, including witnessing the death of a close friend in Afghanistan. They argued that his criminal behavior stemmed from a combination of mental health issues and personal grievances, rather than a targeted attack on the police officers.
