“Former Conservative Councilor Admits to 13-Year Sexual Assault of Ex-Wife”

Date:

A man has confessed to drugging and sexually assaulting his former wife for a span of 13 years. Philip Young, a former Conservative councilor, admitted to a range of charges in the presence of his ex-wife, Joanne Young, at Winchester Crown Court last Friday.

Young, previously residing in Swindon but now living in Enfield, pleaded guilty to various offenses, including rape, sexual assault, assault by penetration, and voyeurism, among others, all occurring between 2010 and 2023.

He admitted to 48 out of the 56 charges, including voyeurism, rape, administering substances with intent, assault by penetration, sexual assault, and publishing obscene materials. Ms. Young, 48, who had waived her right to anonymity in connection with the case, was present in court during the guilty pleas, accompanied by her sister and a support member.

Young denied eight additional charges, including making indecent images of children in July 2024, possessing prohibited images, and possessing extreme pornographic material between January 2019 and January 2024.

In a separate development, five men faced court on Friday, accused of sexual offenses against Ms. Young. Norman Macksoni and Richard Wilkins pleaded not guilty to a rape charge, while Dean Hamilton is yet to enter a plea for rape, sexual assault, and assault by penetration charges.

Wilkins also denied an assault by penetration charge, and Connor Sanderson Doyle pleaded not guilty to sexual assault charges. Mohammed Hassan also pleaded not guilty to sexual touching. All five men were granted bail and are scheduled for trial on October 5.
