Date:

A former Metropolitan Police inspector, John Doyle, aged 53, has been accused of multiple crimes, including five charges of rape, spanning over a period of 12 years. Doyle, previously associated with the Met’s Specialist Firearms Command, is facing a total of 17 charges. The allegations, involving a single victim, occurred between 2012 and 2024.

Initially arrested on June 24, 2024, in Liverpool, Doyle was discharged on December 10 of the same year after a private misconduct inquiry. Subsequently, he was formally charged via mail on February 4 and is scheduled to appear in court on February 11.

Catherine Baccas, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor of CPS London South, announced that Doyle is facing charges of controlling or coercive behavior, multiple counts of rape, assault by penetration, and misconduct in public office. These charges stem from accusations made by a woman regarding a 12-year period of alleged abuse. The Crown Prosecution Service has ensured that there is substantial evidence to present the case in court, emphasizing the importance of a fair trial for the defendant.

It is emphasized that ongoing legal proceedings should not be influenced by any online reporting, commentary, or sharing of information that could prejudice the case.
