A former police officer, Ryan Connolly, received a suspended sentence for possessing disturbing videos. Connolly, 41, was acquitted of misconduct charges but admitted to having inappropriate images on his phone. He was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court for possessing extreme pornography videos on WhatsApp. The prosecution revealed the graphic nature of the videos, including acts involving animals and potential serious injury. Despite character references, Connolly was handed a suspended 12-month sentence and required to perform 80 hours of unpaid work. The judge cited the delay in sentencing due to the guilty plea made nearly five years ago. Connolly’s employment with Merseyside Police was terminated in 2021 following the discovery of offensive content on his phone. The court also heard about racist, homophobic, and derogatory images as well as connections to criminal associates.
