Former UK Powerlifting Champion Dies in Tragic Jet Ski Accident

Date:

A beloved father, known for his exceptional parenting and towering integrity, tragically passed away during a vacation in Spain. Jeremy Paynter, a former UK powerlifting champion from Seabrook near Hythe, was in Alcudia, Mallorca on June 28.

During an initial hearing at Oakwood House in Maidstone, it was disclosed that the 45-year-old was on a jet ski with his partner, Emily Hill, when the watercraft capsized while stationary. Coroner Patricia Harding stated that the incident occurred while they were wearing life jackets and trying to regain balance on the jet ski.

Despite efforts to rescue him, Mr. Paynter, a senior finance manager born in New Zealand, could not be revived after being pulled onto nearby rocks. A preliminary post-mortem examination in Spain determined his cause of death as asphyxia.

He leaves behind a seven-year-old daughter and is fondly remembered by friends, family, and former colleagues for his loving nature and generosity. His ex-wife, Cathrine Spencer, a former England rugby player, paid tribute to him in a heartfelt LinkedIn post, acknowledging his impactful presence in their lives.

Colleagues and acquaintances have expressed their condolences and shared memories of Mr. Paynter, highlighting his supportive and caring nature. The inquest has been adjourned for a future full hearing to delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding his untimely death.
