Four teenagers have been accused in connection with a serious rape case where a woman was reportedly sexually assaulted at a residence in Weston-Super-Mare. The group, comprising two 17-year-olds, an 18-year-old, and a 19-year-old, were apprehended and charged following a specialized investigation by Avon and Somerset Police into the alleged offense.
The incident, which took place on Sunday, June 21, involved the woman being threatened and raped while confined at the property. Tommy Campbell, 19, from Weston-Super-Mare, faces charges including multiple counts of rape, sexual assault, false imprisonment, and assault causing bodily harm. Additionally, Rio Welling, 18, also from Weston-Super-Mare, has been charged with two counts of rape and one count of false imprisonment.
Due to their age, the two 17-year-olds’ identities have not been disclosed. One of them has been charged with three counts of rape, false imprisonment, and assault causing bodily harm, while the other has been charged with rape and assault causing bodily harm.
All four individuals have been detained and are scheduled to appear at Taunton Magistrates’ Court on the same day. Detective Inspector Natalie Thatcher expressed that the investigation has progressed significantly, with charges sanctioned by the Crown Prosecution Service marking a crucial development. The victim has been receiving support from trained officers, and efforts have been made to keep the public informed about the arrests in Weston and Worle.
Acknowledging the community’s concerns, the police emphasized the necessity of the coordinated arrests and thanked the public for their cooperation during the investigative process.
