Theme parks have never been a favorite of mine. Like many new parents, I initially had grand visions of traveling with my first son, exploring restaurants and museums together on city breaks. Yet, my perspective changed when I accompanied my 11-year-old to Futuroscope in France. I approached the trip as a test of endurance, but to my surprise, I ended up recommending it to other families by the end.
Our journey from Manchester to Futuroscope involved various modes of transportation, including an Avanti train, a night near St Pancras station, an early morning Eurostar ride, the Paris Metro, and a high-speed train to Futuroscope station near Poitiers. Despite sounding complex on paper, the journey turned out to be an integral part of the adventure, with my son actively participating by navigating maps and practicing French on DuoLingo.
As a mother of three, I realized how rare it is to have uninterrupted time together. Even before we reached the park, the journey had already strengthened our bond.
Upon arrival at Futuroscope, we stayed at the nature-inspired Ecolodgee near the park entrance, offering easy access. The cabins provided a cozy setting, with separate sleeping areas for kids and adults. My son particularly enjoyed the daily French breakfast basket delivered to our cabin door, claiming it was the highlight of the trip.
While I used to be fearless and once rode a roller coaster multiple times in a row, age has tempered my adventurous spirit. Nonetheless, spending two action-packed days with my son at Futuroscope pushed me out of my comfort zone, especially during exhilarating experiences like Dances with Robots.
Futuroscope distinguishes itself from traditional theme parks by offering immersive and imaginative attractions, many of which are uniquely French in style. The park’s balance of thrilling rides, captivating shows, and cultural experiences made our visit unforgettable.
For families with dietary restrictions, like mine due to my son’s allergies, Futuroscope provides accommodating dining options. Despite challenges related to food allergies, we found the staff to be helpful and the meals enjoyable.
Overall, Futuroscope provided a unique and affordable experience that felt distinctly French. The park’s atmosphere, language, and attractions immersed us in the local culture, making it a standout destination.
Most importantly, the trip gave us valuable one-on-one time, allowing us to try new things and create lasting memories together. While my son will cherish the rides, we both will fondly remember the frogs and the special moments we shared at Futuroscope.
