Staff members at a rescue center in Shropshire were shocked to discover that one of their cats had been shot with a rifle. Severn Valley Rescue, located near Bridgnorth in Billingsley, reported on Facebook that their ginger cat, Mr. Star, went missing on Saturday and returned on Monday with a severe limp and a large, infected wound. Upon examination, it was revealed that Mr. Star had been shot with an actual rifle, not an air rifle, requiring a license to own. Despite his critical condition, Mr. Star miraculously survived, though his blood count was dangerously low.
A fundraising campaign has been initiated by Amanda Ball, a co-founder of Severn Valley Rescue, on GoFundMe to cover the extensive medical expenses for Mr. Star’s treatment, which is anticipated to cost thousands of pounds. Currently, Mr. Star is undergoing treatment to stabilize his condition before undergoing a front leg amputation later this week. The fundraiser has already raised over £500, a significant portion of the £2,500 goal.
Severn Valley Rescue is actively seeking information from the community and reviewing CCTV footage to identify the perpetrator responsible for the cruel act. They have cooperated with the authorities and preserved all evidence related to the incident. The rescue center is urging anyone with knowledge about the shooting incident that occurred near Billingsley on July 17 or 18 to come forward.
Established in 2008 as Shropshire Donkey Rescue, Severn Valley Rescue is a registered charity that cares for more than 200 animals. Over the years, they have rescued numerous disabled animals, including a deaf pig, three-legged cats, a one-eyed alpaca, and a blind donkey.
