“Grand Canyon Resident Reveals Unusual Home”

Date:

The Grand Canyon, renowned as one of the most iconic natural marvels on Earth, attracts millions of global visitors annually. Recently, a woman disclosed that she resides within the canyon itself, a revelation causing fascination and astonishment.

Located in north-western Arizona, the Grand Canyon stretches an impressive 277 miles and features a vast chasm carved by the Colorado River. Its distinct layers of ancient red rock amplify its allure, and it has held National Park status since 1919.

The site draws millions of tourists yearly to admire the breathtaking views, explore hiking trails, and engage in white water rafting adventures. A TikTok user, @heyarielnicole, shared drone footage of the landmark, sparking surprise with the caption: “Today years old when I found out people live in the Grand Canyon.”

The post garnered over 65.5 million views, with the comments section buzzing with astonishment. Among the reactions was a mention of Shila S Siyuja, a resident who calls the Grand Canyon home with her family.

Shila utilizes social media to offer glimpses into the reality of living within this iconic natural wonder. While she enjoys stunning scenery and outdoor access, challenges unique to the area also exist.

One of her popular videos showcases Shila and her family embarking on an “eight-mile hike home” after missing their return flight into the canyon. The family resides in the renowned Supai Village at the canyon’s base, an isolated settlement accessible only by an eight-mile hike, helicopter, or mule ride.

As the capital of the Havasupai Tribe, Supai Village is recognized for its striking turquoise waterfalls and tight-knit community, providing residents with essential services like a shop, post office, school, and café. Shila’s hiking video drew attention and admiration from captivated TikTok viewers.

Viewers engaged with comments like: “So beautiful!! How long did it take?” and “The real American people.” Others shared experiences of visiting the area in the past and expressed longing for a return.

Besides Shila’s videos, one clip captured her family on a shopping trip outside the Grand Canyon, boarding a helicopter for their journey home. The footage showed their shopping items secured in an external sling load beneath the helicopter, suspended by a cable and cargo hook.

While Shila and her family reside in the area, they are not alone. Over 2,000 residents also live within the Grand Canyon, primarily stationed at Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim.
