Grandmother Wins £142,857 in Postcode Lottery

Date:

A grandmother shared her joy after winning £142,857 in the Postcode Lottery, six decades after winning her home. Pamela Hiscocks, 79, and her husband Anthony, 82, originally won their three-bedroom bungalow in a competition held by developers who constructed the estate in the 1960s. The couple’s postcode has now awarded them a substantial sum, 45 times more than the house’s initial purchase price of £3,175.

Pamela, a mother of one from Melksham, Wiltshire, expressed her astonishment at the unexpected windfall, stating, “We’ve been lucky in the past, but this is just amazing. I can’t take it in. That’s big money. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d win that money. It’s so exciting.” Anthony also shared his disbelief, mentioning, “It’s not real. I’m flabbergasted and gobsmacked.” The Hiscocks were part of a group of seven neighbors who split a £1 million prize after their postcode, SN12 7HB, was drawn for the weekly Millionaire Street prize.

The couple recalled their previous wins, including the house and a football pools victory, but considered this latest win to surpass them all. Anthony reminisced about winning the house through a slogan-writing competition during the estate’s development, emphasizing the significance of the prize back then. The couple now plans to use their winnings to support their family, prioritizing their son, daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren.

Pamela also intends to share the wealth with her granddaughter, Amy, who is preparing for her upcoming wedding. The couple’s future plans include celebrating Pamela’s 80th birthday and their 60th wedding anniversary, as well as treating their loved ones to memorable experiences. Lesley Rose, a close friend and neighbor of the Hiscocks, also celebrated a £142,857 win, despite her ongoing battle with incurable cancer. Lesley expressed her gratitude for the newfound luck, highlighting her plans for a new kitchen, a holiday, and special treats for her family.

Facing health challenges, Lesley recounted her cancer journey and the support she received from healthcare providers and loved ones. She praised the medical staff’s dedication and credited them with providing her with valuable time. Lesley’s resilience and unwavering family support have been instrumental in her fight against cancer, with plans now in motion to enhance her quality of life with the lottery winnings.
