A man, known as the ‘Grim Reaper,’ was fined after he climbed onto the roof of a hospital in an attempt to frighten visitors. Leon Gillespie, 26, admitted to causing a disturbance without a valid reason at an NHS facility and was given a £200 penalty by Llandudno Magistrates. Dressed in a ‘Grim Reaper’ costume, Gillespie was found on the hospital roof, gazing at staff and visitors.
Witnesses observed Gillespie brandishing a large blade and creating noise on the hospital premises. He was attired in a black attire resembling a crow outfit, surprising hospital visitors as they spotted a mysterious figure above Ysbyty Glan Clwyd hospital in St Asaph, Denbighshire on June 6.
Authorities were alerted, leading to the dispatch of four police cars and fire service vehicles to the hospital. Eventually, they successfully escorted Gillespie down from the roof. Reports indicated that a man dressed entirely in black was standing over the hospital entrance. Gillespie did not provide any justification for his alarming actions.
Moreover, Gillespie was involved in theft incidents, including stealing cat supplies from a local Pets at Home and food and beverages from Sainsbury’s in Llandudno. As a result, he was directed to pay fines totaling £250 and compensation of £50.
A representative from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board emphasized their zero-tolerance stance towards any form of misconduct within their hospital facilities.
During the episode, a North Wales Police spokesperson stated that Gillespie had caused a disturbance without a reasonable excuse and had defied police orders to vacate the premises.
