“Hamas Suspect Arrested in Greece for Cruise Ship Assault Attempt”

Date:

Greek police have apprehended a man believed to be associated with Hamas for attempting to assault a cruise ship. The Palestinian suspect, aged 37, was captured in Crete and is accused of joining Hamas and receiving training from the militant organization overseas.

Following the arrest, intelligence agents conducted searches at residences in Crete and Athens, uncovering various items including mobile phones, a laptop, external hard drives, and bank cards. The suspect is scheduled to appear before a magistrate on Sunday for further proceedings.

Authorities have revealed that the man’s arrest is connected to the apprehension of four other Palestinian individuals in Cyprus who are under investigation for “terrorism-related” offenses and alleged involvement in a criminal group. In Cyprus, two men were initially detained on May 22 based on intelligence assessments. Subsequently, suspected materials suitable for making explosives were discovered in two properties linked to one of the detained individuals. The remaining two men were taken into custody on May 29 in relation to the same inquiry.
