“Headteacher Barred for Perverse Images Involving Children”

Date:

A headteacher with perverse behavior has been permanently barred from his position following the discovery of disturbing images involving children and animals on his mobile device.

Ian McDonald, aged 46, departed from Bishop Martin Primary School in Skelmersdale, West Lancashire in July 2023. McDonald, who had been serving as the headteacher since September 2022, was apprehended by Lancashire Police’s online abuse unit in April the next year for creating indecent images of children and possessing an explicit image involving animals.

Following his suspension by the school on April 25 and subsequent resignation on July 25, McDonald admitted guilt to three counts of producing indecent images of children and one count of possessing an extreme pornographic image, including animals, in a court appearance at Preston Crown Court on June 20, 2024. These offenses occurred between January 2022 and April 2023.

On July 24, 2024, McDonald, residing in Alexandria Drive, St Annes, received a three-year community order with 30 days of rehabilitation in an accredited program. Additionally, he was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order lasting five years.

A former colleague of McDonald, opting for anonymity, disclosed to the Liverpool Echo that McDonald departed from the school in 2023 and never returned.

The Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) report, issued post a virtual hearing, indicated that McDonald’s actions were deliberate, as evidenced by his active engagement with and retention of explicit images.

Stuart Blomfield, the decision-maker, deemed it essential to enforce a prohibition order to uphold public trust in the profession. Consequently, McDonald is indefinitely prohibited from teaching and cannot work in any educational institution or relevant youth accommodation in England. Moreover, he is not permitted to seek reinstatement of his teaching eligibility due to the severity of the proven allegations against him.
