A 12-year-old girl named Mia-Mai Grace Williams, described as “fit, happy, and healthy,” tragically passed away after collapsing at her grandparents’ residence. She was found in cardiac arrest with signs of vomiting and received immediate life-saving care. Mia-Mai, a resident of Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, was first taken to Prince Charles Hospital and later transferred to Noah’s Ark, University Hospital of Wales, where her condition worsened rapidly, as revealed during an inquest at Pontypridd Coroner’s Court.
Despite showing no previous signs of illness during her visit to her grandparents, Mia-Mai sadly succumbed to her condition on August 11, 2024, due to a suspected infection leading to cardiac arrest, according to Wales Online. Post mortem examination results indicated that she had myocarditis, a heart infection believed to have triggered the cardiac arrest, ultimately resulting in her untimely demise, as stated in the inquest’s written findings on March 2.
Coroner Patricia Morgan from the South Wales Central area determined the cause of death as natural, resulting from multiple organ dysfunction, cardiac arrest, and lymphocytic myocarditis. The coroner’s report highlighted Mia-Mai’s overall good health and the sudden onset of cardiac arrest at her grandparents’ home, which led to her hospitalization and subsequent passing.
The inquest into Mia-Mai’s death commenced on August 21, 2024, and concluded on March 2, 2026, at Pontypridd Coroner’s Court, shedding light on the tragic circumstances surrounding the loss of the young girl.
