A father, Alan Damon Robinson, is urgently appealing to the individuals who bravely attempted to rescue his teenage son from drowning to come forward. Robinson expressed a heartfelt desire to personally thank the two unidentified individuals for their courageous efforts in trying to save his son, Reco Puttock, who tragically lost his life after encountering difficulties at Leadbeater Dam near Halifax, West Yorkshire, during the recent heatwave.
Robinson, believed to be from Bradford, took to social media, specifically Facebook, to reach out to the rescuers, asking them to contact him so he could express his gratitude in person. Reco was one of four teenagers who met unfortunate fates in water-related incidents across the UK over the scorching weekend, where temperatures soared above 38C. This series of tragedies prompted the RNLI to issue a somber warning urging young people to exercise caution near water bodies.
Tributes in the form of flowers and messages like “RIP Reco. Miss you millions” have been left at the site where the teen drowned in front of numerous onlookers. Reco’s mother fondly remembered him as being close to his three sisters, especially his elder sibling, and enjoying spending time with friends. She expressed profound grief over the loss of her son and the difficulty she faces in coping with the tragedy.
Authorities from West Yorkshire Police confirmed the incident at Leadbeater Dam, stating that the 13-year-old boy was retrieved from the water and pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Investigations are ongoing, but foul play is not suspected. Additionally, another tragic incident occurred during the heatwave, resulting in the death of a man in his 60s who lost his life while trying to save family members in distress at a beach in Padstow, Cornwall.
