“Hiker Will Standish Dies on Continental Divide Trail”

Date:

A hiker, Will Standish, tragically passed away while attempting the challenging 3,100-mile Continental Divide Trail in Wyoming. Standish, 28, from Melbourne, was found deceased after search and rescue teams located his body nearly a week after his last communication with his family. He had been updating his family on his progress using a Garmin satellite device, with his last known location near the Tetons mountain range.

His family shared heartfelt tributes describing Will as funny, cheeky, smart, and kind, emphasizing his unique personality. Following the discovery of his body, the family expressed gratitude to the search and rescue teams and bid a loving farewell to Will, promising to cherish his memory forever.

A close friend, Katie Jackson, remembered Will as a joyful and adventurous spirit who brought laughter to every situation. She acknowledged the profound loss experienced by Will’s family and initiated a fundraiser to support repatriating his body to Australia for a proper farewell.

Teton County search and rescue service confirmed that Will likely fell from a steep ridgeline in the Tetons area, marking the end of his second attempt at the Continental Divide Trail. Despite a previous foot injury thwarting his initial endeavor in 2024, Will had embarked on a new journey starting from Canada with the intention of eventually moving to South America upon completion of the trail.
