Images have captured a significant fire engulfing a historic mill in Leek. Firefighters are currently on site at the Big Mill, where the fire is believed to have started around 9 pm.
The Grade-II listed Big Mill, originally constructed in 1857 by William Sugden, stands as a six-storey former silk mill on Mill Street. It holds a prominent spot in the local silk industry history, once housing Wardle & Davenport and providing employment for thousands.
Local councilor Joe Porter expressed his sorrow witnessing the blaze at this iconic site, emphasizing the significance of preserving such historical buildings for future generations.
