A well-known retailer is set to close 560 of its stores across England and Wales for 24 hours in April. The chain, which has a total of 630 outlets nationwide, will give its staff a break on Easter Sunday. Home Bargains, the discount retailer, will keep all its Scottish stores open on Easter Sunday, while the rest of its stores in the UK will be closed.
This closure will affect 560 out of the 630 stores in the country. Meanwhile, Home Bargains will operate with reduced hours on Good Friday and normal hours on Easter Monday. The company clarified that only the Scottish stores will operate as usual on Easter Sunday.
As per the Sunday Trading Act 1994, large retailers must close on Easter Sunday, similar to the regulation for Christmas Day closure. Smaller shops are exempt from this rule. Customers are advised to check the latest trading hours on the company’s social media channels.
Certain exceptions apply to airport and railway station outlets, service stations, pharmacies, and farms selling their own produce, allowing them to trade on Easter Sunday. Home Bargains is continuously expanding its store network across the UK, aiming to reach 800 to 1,000 locations in the future.
The company has grown from 594 stores in 2023 to 617 in 2024, currently operating 630 stores in the UK. Home Bargains is known as one of the top discount retailers in Britain, with a significant presence in the North West and ongoing expansion plans nationwide.
