A couple fond of pubs, Catherine and Harold Mills, found solace in their local Wetherspoons after losing their home to a storm. Regular patrons of the UK pub chain, they sought refuge there following their displacement due to a fallen tree incident. Since January 9, they have made The John Francis Basset in Camborne, Cornwall, their temporary home, enjoying daily meals and familiar company.
Their stay, funded by insurers, is expected to last until at least March 5, as they anticipate transitioning to rental accommodation. The couple, who have fully embraced the pub life during their 55-day tenure, have explored the menu extensively, relishing in dishes like pizza, curry, fish and chips, paninis, and jackets. Their unexpected favorite, the sticky Korean chicken bowl, has won their taste buds over.
Despite the upheaval of losing their home of 23 years to a storm, Catherine and Harold are grateful for the support and community they have found at Wetherspoons. The caring staff and welcoming atmosphere have made their stay more bearable as they navigate the challenges of rebuilding their lives. With optimism and gratitude, they look forward to the day they can move back into a home of their own.
