“Infant with Rare Disorder Airlifted from Tesco – Family Issues Statement”

Date:

The family of a seven-month-old infant who was airlifted to the hospital following a medical emergency at a Tesco store has issued a statement. Rupert Smith, diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood (AHC), experienced a sudden health crisis while at the Tesco in Broughton Shopping Park, Wales. Emergency services, including the Wales Air Ambulance, responded to the incident, transporting Rupert to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital Trust in Liverpool for treatment.

Rupert’s father, Dave Smith, a police sergeant from Flintshire, expressed gratitude to the individuals who assisted his son during the emergency. The family, residing in Broughton, has launched a fundraising campaign on JustGiving to collect £1.5 million for Rupert’s upcoming medical expenses in the United States. They also aim to raise funds for research, as reported by North Wales Live.

Dave Smith acknowledged the swift response of emergency personnel and the support from Tesco staff during the incident. He emphasized the unpredictable nature of AHC, praising the medical team for their care of Rupert, who is currently stable and undergoing further examinations and observation at the hospital.

Despite ongoing seizures and medical tests, Rupert’s condition is closely monitored by the healthcare team. The family remains hopeful and committed to raising awareness about AHC to secure a better future for their son. They expressed gratitude for the continuous support received from the community.
