Police have initiated an investigation into a homicide following the death of a three-month-old infant boy due to a head injury.
The infant, Atijus Elertaite, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after authorities responded to an incident at a residence in March, Cambridgeshire, on January 3. Cambridgeshire Police were called to the address on St John’s Chase around 11 am.
Sadly, Atijus passed away on January 8, with a preliminary post-mortem examination attributing his death to a head injury, pending further medical evaluations, according to the police.
Prior to the infant’s demise, a 25-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, both residents of March, were detained on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH). Recently, they were re-apprehended on murder allegations and are currently in police custody.
Detective Inspector Verity McCann expressed, “We acknowledge that the local community will be shocked and saddened by this tragic event, and our thoughts are with those impacted by Atijus’ passing.”
McCann highlighted the ongoing efforts to ascertain the exact sequence of events and urged the public to refrain from speculating, particularly on social media, to prevent interference with the investigation.
