An inmate in Chile shocked the nation with a disturbing confession after allegedly murdering and consuming parts of his cellmate. Manuel Ignacio Fuentes, 21, serving time for aggravated robbery, was housed with 26-year-old thief Felipe Sepulveda in La Serena prison when a violent altercation erupted in early February.
Reports indicate that on February 8th, an emergency call alerted authorities to the incident inside their cell. Fuentes, previously arrested for armed robbery in 2022 and later escaping in 2023 before being recaptured, was discovered with injuries and bite marks after Sepulveda’s death.
Official sources revealed that Fuentes claimed self-defense, stating that Sepulveda attacked him first with a knife, leading to a fatal confrontation. Fuentes admitted to checking Sepulveda’s vital signs post-conflict, realizing his demise, and then proceeded to consume parts of his body out of panic.
In a chilling admission to a security guard, Fuentes confessed to the murder, while his father emphasized his son’s need for psychiatric treatment due to a documented neuropsychiatric condition. Fuentes’ girlfriend also noted a decline in his mental health.
Following the tragic incident, Fuentes’ mother extended apologies to the victim’s family, expressing remorse and seeking understanding for her son’s actions. The case has sparked concerns over mental health support within the prison system.
