Iran has issued a concerning threat targeting a significant ally of the UK. The Iranian regime has declared Ukraine as a “legitimate target” due to its support for Israel. Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian leader, has offered assistance to Middle Eastern countries facing threats by leveraging his country’s drone defense capabilities. Ebrahim Azizi, the head of Iran’s parliamentary National Security Commission, has stated that Ukraine’s backing of Israel makes it a justifiable target for Iran.
According to Azizi, Ukraine’s involvement in supporting the Israeli regime through drone assistance has implicated it in the conflict, making its entire territory a valid target under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. Ukraine has honed its expertise in drone defense systems following its ongoing conflict with Russia, which has launched over 57,000 Shahed drones at Ukraine since the invasion. In response to US-Israeli actions, Iran has retaliated by deploying similar drones in the Middle East.
Zelensky highlighted the cost disparity between Patriot air defense missiles and Shahed drones, emphasizing the potential for a drone production partnership between the US and Ukraine. Ukraine’s innovative development of cost-effective drone defense solutions has revolutionized air defense strategies. Ukrainian assistance against Iranian drones will be contingent upon not compromising Ukraine’s defense capabilities and strengthening diplomatic efforts to deter Russian aggression.
Zelensky also mentioned that various countries, including the United States, have sought Ukraine’s assistance in countering Iranian drones. He has engaged in discussions with leaders from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, and Kuwait regarding potential collaboration. The Ukrainian leader reiterated that assistance will be provided to those who support Ukraine’s efforts to end the conflict with Russia.
