An alleged Iranian assassination team made an attempt on the life of US President Donald Trump, according to a statement by the US Secretary of Defense.
During a press briefing, Pete Hegseth revealed that the leader of the unit responsible for the assassination attempt had been killed by US forces. Hegseth confidently stated that the US military was achieving significant success in its operations against Iran.
“The individual who led the assassination attempt on President Trump has been eliminated,” Hegseth declared. “Despite Iran’s efforts, President Trump emerged unscathed, proving his resilience.”
He announced plans for additional military reinforcements, including fighter jets and bombers, to be deployed to the region. Hegseth emphasized the commitment of the US to ensure the success of its mission.
Dan Caine, the Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, confirmed that American forces were well-equipped with munitions for their ongoing actions against Iran. Hegseth mentioned a strategic shift in weaponry, transitioning to gravity bombs as the US gained control of the Iranian airspace.
Regarding drone operations, Hegseth stated, “We have deployed the most advanced counter-UAS systems available, sparing no resources in our efforts. Our operations remain continuous and relentless.”
In a separate development, Hegseth reported that a US submarine had successfully sunk an Iranian warship, marking the first such attack on an enemy vessel since World War II.
Earlier reports indicated that a distress signal from an Iranian ship off the coast of Sri Lanka led to the rescue of 32 individuals, with 140 others still unaccounted for. The US military disclosed its destruction of 17 Iranian vessels and reiterated its objective of neutralizing the entire Iranian navy.
