The niece and grandniece of a deceased Iranian general have been apprehended by ICE authorities while residing in the United States in a lavish lifestyle.
Sarinasadat Hosseiny, aged 25, and her mother, Hamideh Soleimani Afshar, are directly linked to the late commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, Qassem Soleimani. Following the revocation of their US permanent resident status by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the mother and daughter were detained by federal immigration agents on Friday amidst the ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Tehran.
The maternal duo got arrested by ICE officers due to their affiliations with the Iranian regime, as confirmed by the US state department.
Contrary to the allegations by the US government, Soleimani’s daughter refuted the claims, stating that her family has no associations with the political regime. General Soleimani was killed in January 2020 through a US-ordered drone attack at Baghdad Airport in Iraq.
Hosseiny arrived in the US in 2015 on a student visa and was granted asylum in 2019, followed by permanent residency in 2023 during the Biden administration. Afshar entered the US on a tourist visa in 2015 and also received asylum in 2019, becoming a green card holder in 2021 as per the US Department of Homeland Security.
According to the DHS, Afshar disclosed that she had traveled to Iran four times post obtaining her green card, which led to doubts regarding the legitimacy of her asylum claims.
Social media posts by the grandniece of the military leader showcased her indulging in a lifestyle far removed from her great-uncle’s regime ideologies. The 25-year-old was seen jet-setting across party destinations in the US like Miami and Las Vegas, alongside enjoying a glamorous life in Los Angeles.
Additionally, she shared images of herself in revealing attire at events like Coachella and before heading out for nights. Meanwhile, her mother, while residing in California, referred to America as the “Great Satan” in her social media posts, as per the DHS.
Despite Soleimani’s daughter denying any connection to the Iranian political regime, the DHS differed in opinion. The US government alleged that Afshar Soleimani promoted propaganda for Iran’s terrorist regime while enjoying a luxurious lifestyle in Los Angeles, evident from her frequent posts on her recently deleted Instagram account.
Furthermore, the DHS stated that “In addition to the termination of Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter’s LPR status, Afshar’s husband has also been banned from entering the United States.”
This crackdown on individuals with alleged ties to Tehran in the US is part of a broader enforcement effort. The DHS highlighted that Marco Rubio also annulled the legal status of Dr. Fatemeh Ardeshir-Larijani, an assistant professor at Emory University’s prestigious Winship Cancer Institute in Atlanta, as reported by the New York Post.
