“Iranian Missiles Target UK Base, Intercepted Near Chagos”

Date:

The UK’s Secretary of Defense informed members of Parliament that Iranian missiles were launched towards the Chagos Islands but fell short of the British base located there. John Healey emphasized the threat posed by Iran to global security and urged the regime to cease its aggressive actions. He confirmed that two long-range missiles were fired at the Diego Garcia base in the Indian Ocean, but neither successfully reached the target.

During the update session in the Commons, the Defence Secretary stated that one missile missed its mark while the other was intercepted before reaching Diego Garcia. He condemned Iran’s provocative behavior and emphasized the need for immediate cessation of such actions. He highlighted Iran’s history of attacks on multiple countries, including the use of ballistic missiles and drones against various targets.

Mr. Healey reassured that all UK personnel were safe and accounted for, emphasizing the ongoing operational readiness of the UK’s military assets. He announced the deployment of the British warship HMS Dragon to the Eastern Mediterranean for operational duties. Additionally, he mentioned plans to deploy lightweight multiple launchers to Bahrain for training purposes, highlighting the strategic military preparations implemented since January.

The Defence Secretary emphasized the proactive measures taken to safeguard British interests and allies in the region, including the deployment of fighter jets, helicopters, and warships. He underscored the commitment to defending against threats and protecting British personnel, noting the extensive flying hours logged by RAF and Navy pilots in defense of allied nations.

Recent reports from the Israel Defense Forces suggested that Iran possesses weapons capable of reaching European capitals, including London, Paris, and Berlin. Concerns were raised following Iran’s targeting of the Chagos Islands, located thousands of miles away from Iran. Responding to questions about potential threats to the UK, Keir Starmer stated that assessments are continuously conducted to ensure national security and emphasized the importance of de-escalation and protecting British interests without getting entangled in conflicts.
